Description

An America-250 performance, "The Great American Songbook." This concert shares some of the most beautiful songs ever written in the land of liberty. Hear beautiful ballads, duets, and songs of yesterday and today in this moving concert honoring the gifts of America. The full Concert Band will be joined by vocalists Danielle Roby, Annamarie Smith-Butz, and Frank Cubillo! The Great American Songbook is an unofficial canon of influential 20th-century American popular songs, jazz standards, Broadway, and Hollywood musical numbers, from the 1920s to the 1950s. Key composers include George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and Jerome Kern, whose works are defined by sophisticated melodies and lyrical wit. These tunes are considered "America's classical music" and remain foundational for jazz and vocalists today. The concert includes a tribute to Tony Bennett.
