THE WELCOME HOME INITIATIVE services ® (WHI) is a three-day faith-based retreat for veterans who may be suffering in varying degrees of post-traumatic stress and moral/soul injury. For over 18 years, WHI retreats have assisted over a thousand veterans (and spouses) in accomplishing essential spiritual and emotional healing from combat-related post-traumatic stress (PTS) as a complement to other veterans' services already in place.

Rev. Nigel Mumford leads the retreat. A Royal Marine Commando, Combat Veteran, and Author, he is recognized by the State of Virginia for his work with veterans. He has written several books on the healing of traumatic memories.

Nigel's WHI Team are trained individuals who ensure that every participant has a welcoming and safe environment in which to heal and connect with God. See the link below.

The program includes:

 - Resources for coping and recovery from trauma responses.

• Healing of traumatic memories and moral injury

• Blocks to healing

   - The importance of telling your story and how to do so effectively

   - Impact of post-traumatic stress upon family and other close relationships.

• Inner Healing Prayer sessions

• Separate Spouses sessions on the characteristics of post-traumatic stress and moral injury.

The connections and friendships formed during these retreats are outstanding and can last a lifetime. Participants find equal footing and experience camaraderie that they miss from military life, regardless of their rank or branch of service.

This retreat, we are blessed to have the Hilton Garden Inn Oceanfront as our hotel accommodation (no need to contact the hotel directly, as the rooms are already reserved by WHI. The Virginia Beach boardwalk is right outside the hotel, and the hotel is within walking distance of the retreat venue at the historic (since 1888) Galilee Church.
