In this focused workshop for writers of all phases and stages, we will explore the brevity and beauty of flash essays. Flash is generally considered under 750 words, and it packs a punch through honed and purposeful prose.
In one session, we’ll look closely at the precision of “microscopic” moments, consider the power of titles and first sentences, learn why every word matters, and talk through ways to weave elements of flash into longer works to make them all the more impactful.
Through brief discussions of short assigned readings, generative in-class exercises, and an interactive mini-lecture, you’ll engage with the immediacy, intricacy, and energy of flash nonfiction—and leave with new implements for your writer’s toolkit.
